Criminal Minds Season 8 – A Basic Instinct to Replace Paget Brewster

CBS and Criminal Minds have locked up their replacement for Emily Prentiss, played by Paget Brewster, by casting Jeanne Tripplehorn for the upcoming 8th season. Tripplehorn will fill the role on the team as a new FBI profiler who will be introduced in the season premiere.

Deadline reports that Tripplehorn isn’t getting replacement compensation though, citing a source that the veteran actress will be pulling in six figures an episode. Most recently you would have caught Tripplehorn on HBO’s Big Love or, more recently, in an arc in the Zooey Deschanel FOX vehicle New Girl. Personally, my memories of Tripplehorn are limited to a bit farther back and on the big screen, with her memorable role (most people identify Sharon Stone with movie – nothing wrong with that either) in Basic Instinct, and from the notorious Waterworld (which I don’t think is near as awful as some insist). She also co-starred in The Firm with Tom Cruise.

Criminal Minds is expected to return to CBS in September.
