Homeland Season 2 – Finding A Friend For Claire Danes and Damian Lewis

Last year, Showtime’s Homeland was a surprise knock out, setting up one of the year’s greatest dramas, filled with suspense and at least one out-of-left-field plot twist per episode. But what the show really had going for it was its stand up cast, consisting of Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, and Morena Baccarin. Adding to the awesome, Rupert Friend will be joining the show as a series regular for Season 2. Assuming Homeland’s first season wasn’t a fluke – believe me, the thought has definitely crossed my mind – how will Friend’s presence affect the show? Will this new character mesh with the already existing cast? Truthfully, I don’t know, but at least we know whom he’s playing.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Friend will be portraying a new CIA analyst, the buttoned-down Peter Quinn. He will be overseeing a critical operation, but we don’t yet know what that operation will be. I think it goes without saying whatever he is working on will have a major impact on the story of Season 2. If not, why bother even creating the character? My only question is how it will involve Carrie and Brody? Those two are far away from each other right now; is it possible Quinn’s operation will bring them back together in some way? Homeland! You need to come back sooner than September!
Friend isn’t the only new cast member. Lost’s Zuleikha Robinson is joining as the recurring character of Rova Hammad, a Middle Eastern field journalist with ties to renowned terrorist Abu Nazir, a constant presence – seen or unseen – throughout the first season. We know without a doubt she will indeed be bumping into Brody at some point when she gives him some kind of ultimatum. So far signs are pointing to another season of twists and turns and great character work. It would be tragic if these signs were leading us in the wrong direction.
