Jena Malone Might Be Catching Fire, No Hunger Games for Wasikowska

Contrary to previous Catching Fire casting rumor circulation concerning the role of the The Hunger Games’ sequel Johanna Mason, Mia Wasikowska will not be taking on the role, was not approached to, and most likely has a schedule that wouldn’t allow for it. Another candidate has been put forth, however, in the form of  Jena Malone. Malone, like Wasikowska, is not a stranger to fantastic setting and circumstance in her films, having appeared in Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch, The Ruins, and Donnie Darko, and, to keep it real for a moment, recently appeared in the History Channel’s ratings booming Hatfield and McCoy’s project.

Previously, along with Wasikowksa, Zoe Aggeliki was also rumored to be up for the role of Johanna Mason, a point that was not dismissed by the EW report that clarified the former’s unavailability and Malone’s candidacy. I have not read Suzanne Collin’s Catching Fire, but apparently Johanna Mason has a very nice initial scene that introduces her to us and Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen. Francis Lawrence (the director of Catching Fire)… let’s keep the scene in there, I like green slippers. Hunger Games fans are anxiously awaiting to see who will fill several of their favorite roles, including that of Finnick Odair. We know it won’t Taylor Kitsch or Robert Pattinson, but after seeming like the role would have been filled earlier this month, with that to the rumor mill keeps churning as well.

Catching Fire is scheduled to hit theaters on November 22nd, 2013.
