Leverage Season 5 – A Whedonverse Affair with Adam Baldwin

This year has been a good one for Adam Baldwin, who wrapped the final season of Chuck and had a delightful reunion with fellow Joss Whedon favorite Nathan Fillion on Castle, and his good fortune hasn’t stopped yet. Baldwin has been tapped for a role in the upcoming fifth season of Leverage, which will feature another reunion, this time with fellow recurring Angel character and Leverage co-star Christian Kane. I can only imagine how much more enjoyable Baldwin’s job becomes when he gets these chances to work with actors from his past. I’m thinking his next Whendonverse reunion should be with Christina Hendricks on Mad Men.

But back to Leverage: according to TV Guide, Baldwin will be playing the possibly recurring role of Col. Michael Vance, an ex-Army Ranger running a government counter-terrorism unit. He has the unorthodox method of recruiting small teams consisting of agents and sometimes civilians to do jobs for him – something you know the government isn’t entirely pleased with – which is more than a good enough excuse to be get him involved with Nate and his team. I’ve been conditioned to always picture Baldwin as some kind of gruff military personnel, and it seems like the tradition hasn’t stopped here.
With Kane’s Eliot Spencer being a former soldier as well, it stands to reason he may know Col. Vance. If they’re going to put Kane and Baldwin in the same show, they might as well give their characters a backstory together. During their time ofn Angel, Kane recurred as Lindsey McDonald while Baldwin recurred as Marcus Hamilton. As fun as it is to see Baldwin doing these little guest spots, I hope he finds himself a new series to star in. I miss seeing him every week. I know it hasn’t been that long since Chuck ended, but I’m ready to see Baldwin in a new show, preferably with him as the badass.
