Doctor Camilla Luddington in Grey’s Anatomy Season 9

If you’re still feeling sad about the lives lost on Grey’s Anatomy this past season, it may interest you to know the process of filling the empty hole in your heart with a new character has already begun. It’s kind of like when you’re a little kid and your pet dies. You’re completely distraught and your parents have no idea what to do to make your grieving any easier, so they go out and buy you a new one in the hope it will distract you, making you forget you ever had another pet. And much like this analogy, if it turns out if you don’t like this new character then she’ll be sent away, but to find other work instead of being sent to the pound.
And the actress who inspired my weird little pet analogy is none other than Camilla Luddington. According to Deadline, she’ll be playing a new doctor and is so far only booked in a recurring capacity, but she has the option to become a regular during the course of Season 9. I wish we could say there was more information on the character, such as who she is and where she comes from – I don’t expect to learn her entire backstory before she even appears on the show, but a something would be nice. I never understand why some casting announcements come with names of the characters while others don’t.
Luddington has been popping up everywhere as of late. Not only is she taking a job on Grey’s, but she had a nine-episode arc on Californication – we saw a lot of her in that role, if you know what I mean – and will be on the current season of True Blood for six episodes. But the most impressive job she’s taken recently – as judged by my total geek side – is that of Lara Croft in the next Tomb Raider game. It’s not a live action role, but she will be doing motion-capture as well as lending her appearance and voice to the role.
