Hunger Games’ Johanna Mason – Jena Malone is Catching Fire?

The saga of the casting of Johanna Mason, one of the pivotal new players we will be introduced to in Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger Games, has been a bit everywhere in the last week or so, but it looks like now w are reaching firmer ground (again) in finding the former District 7 Tribute. It now looks like the role will be handled by Jena Malone, who you probably last saw in Sucker Punch or in Hatfields and McCoys.

According to THR the young actress has been offered the role after her name cropped up as a possibility for Johanna Mason a couple of weeks ago, joining two other names that were reportedly in contention, that of Mia Wasikowska and Zoe Aggeliki. The former was dismissed early, reportedly not offered the role and not having an open schedule to begin with, but it did look like that Aggeliki was going to land this role a few days ago, but it seems that its now all Jena Malone.
As I’ve mentioned previously, Johanna Mason is introduced to us, and Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta, in a pretty sweet way – they (at least a movie did) say geniuses pick green, and green slippers is all Mason needs.
I think now everybody’s attention now moves toward the casting of Finnick Odair. Catching Fire is headed our way at the end of next year.
