AMC Cancels The Killing, FOX Shopping Season 3

Talk about a third season of The Killing started circulating soon after the second ended, an odd mix of excellent writing and acting with a baffling amount of red herrings that you wouldn’t think a show of the the aforementioned quality would need. The first season was a prime example and tone setter, perhaps a perfect build-up and season that went for an ending (or non-ending). The Killing maintained a relatively high level of quality in storytelling but certainly lost some steam after having a very successful first season where it was with little question one of the buzziest new shows of the year and was the talk – for better or worse – after its initial season finale. While it’s not my favorite show in the box, it’s probably going to go in my box of AMC shows that were really good and let go, along with Rubicon. That said, it’s better to have a surplus of good material than otherwise.
The reason for this is that AMC has decided to cancel and thus pass on airing a third season of The Killing. It’s not the end of all hope for fans of the show though, as FOX TV Studios, who produces the show, is reportedly shopping The Killing to other networks.
I don’t think Mireille Enos (who will be in both World War Z and Gangster Squad) and Joel Kinnaman (who will be Robocop) are going to have a hard time finding work, regardless if The Killing lands a third season or not.
