Grey’s Anatomy Hires Newcomer in an Unknown Recurring Role

Grey's Anatomy ABC

One thing a TV series in its ninth season needs is fresh blood to give viewers a reason to tune in. That probably sounds a little on the negative side of things, but the fact of the matter is nine seasons is a long time to be on the air, and unless you’re a genius at creating new situations for characters to find themselves in, the show is inevitably going to start feeling stale. For Grey’s Anatomy, the best way to create new conflicts is to introduce new characters. We’ve seen the main cast interact with each other so many times, they’re reactions to each other are pretty predictable. But how will everyone react to a new recurring character played by Tessa Ferrer?

Ferrer is relatively new to the acting scene, so her talents are basically unknown at this point. Also unknown is the kind of character she will be playing, though TVLine seems to think she’ll be taking on the role of one of the new interns. Interestingly, we don’t know which hospital Ferrer could be joining. We already know Grey’s will be splitting it’s time between Seattle Grace and a new hospital that some of the staff have transferred to. This is a good example of finding new situations to put the characters through. Not only are we getting brand new, untested characters, but we’re getting a fresh location to have the cast play around in.

Other new faces to introduced in Season 9 include Tina Majorino, Gaius Charles, and Camilla Luddington, all of whom are signed on for multiple episodes. The new season is set to premiere Thursday, Sept. 27. It’s one episode you won’t want to miss if you want to find out what happened to the survivors of last season’s plane crash. As I’m sure you’ve already heard, not everyone makes it out alive. Who do you think will make it?
