David Harbour is Sherlock Doc in Elementary

Not Doctor Watson of course, because that role belongs to Lucy Liu (Joan Watson). Instead, David Harbour has landed an Elementary guest star gig as Dr. Mason Baldwin. TVline describes Mason as a brilliant surgeon who will for some reason is tagged as an “unlikely” source of help for Jonny Lee Miller’s modern Sherlock Holmes.
While you might have recently caught Harbour in HBO’s freshmen season of Newsroom, his background seems to be in film, or rather, you probably have seen a movie with him in it, as he’s in some rather large movies like Quantum of Solace, State of Play, Revolutionary Road, Brokeback Mountain, and Green Hornet. He was also the double agent in Pan AM, a show on ABC that I actually didn’t hate (though certainly I saw the limitations of), but got the boot after season 1. Harbour joins a group of season 1 guest stars that already include the recently cast Anika Noni Rose, Craig Bierko, and Molly Price.
The British relaunch of Sherlock Holmes is pretty brilliant and has made Benedict Cumberbatch a hot commodity (the guy is in everything now, from Stark Trek to The Hobbit), so its going to be interesting how Elementary will compare. We will find out soon because Elementary debuts on CBS this month, launching on September 27th.
