Laurence Fishburne’s Wife Comes to Hannibal to Play…His Wife

We’re still a ways away from the midseason premiere of Hannibal, NBC’s contemporary take on the Hannibal Lecter character, but it’s never too early to hear about who’s being cast in supporting roles. On top of grabbing such names as Molly Shannon, Caroline Dhavernas, Chelan Simons and Ellen Greene, we now have word Gina Torres has tapped for a recurring role on the new series. And fret not Suits fans. This new role will in no way take her away from her Jessica Pearson character in the USA series. She’ll be able to do both shows without anybody missing her.
According to TVLine, Torres will be playing the wife of Laurence Fishburne’s Jack Crawford, Hannibal’s resident G-Man. Fun fact: Torres is Fishburne’s real life wife, so their interactions together are practically guaranteed to be realistic. Can you imagine if they had a fight on set? Do you think they would just use it to fuel their performance? It must be so weird to act alongside your spouse. I shudder just thinking about it. What if it’s a particularly harsh scene and they take it personally? And don’t say they’ll be able to discern real life from acting. Have you ever had a dream where someone you knew pissed you off and when you woke up you were still pissed? It could be like that.
Hannibal comes from executive producer Bryan Fuller – he once worked with Torres on Pushing Daisies where she played grifter Lila Robinson – and will follow the relationship between Dr. Hannibal Lecter and FBI agent Will Graham. The series will pick up at the very beginning of their relationship and promises to give audiences a good amount of suspense. We all know Hannibal is destined to be a killer and the show should have us at the edge of our seats waiting to see when he’ll finally show his true colors.
