How I Met Your Mother Hosts Buffy Reunion with Seth Green and Alyson Hannigan

How I Met Your Mother CBS

In the last year, I’ve noticed a lot of “reunions” have been happening on TV shows, and a lot of them have involved actors and actresses who have worked on various Joss Whedon series. Is this a thing, reuniting Buffy, Firefly and Dollhouse cast members? If so, then great. I think it’s awesome bringing these people back together, even if it’s just for a single episode. The latest reunion will bring together a former couple of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Can anybody guess which couple and which show it will happen on? If you guessed Seth Green and Alyson Hannigan on How I Met Your Mother then you must have psychic powers. I didn’t even give you a hint.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Green will guest star in HIMYM as Daryl LaCoutre, a former college classmate of Lily and Marshall who believed himself to be best friends with the two lovers. Unfortunately, they have no recollection of him, but he’s apparently been living near Wesleyan campus, obsessing over reuniting with his so-called friends. Maybe Ted remembers him.

Before his character departed Buffy, Green played Oz for three seasons and dated Hannigan’s Willow. There love was not meant to be, even if Oz had stuck around – Willow went on to become a lesbian, simultaneously crushing and fulfilling many a teenaged boy’s dreams. I’m wondering if there will be any obvious jokes or references toward Green and Hannigan’s time on Buffy – the show made not-so-subtle references to Jorge Garcia’s time on Lost when he guest starred – or if they’ll play this straight and not give a single wink or nod.

Green won’t be the first Whedon character to make it on to HIMYM. Alexis Denisof – Hannigan’s real life husband – has appeared eight times as news anchor Sandy Rivers. He played Wesley Wyndam-Pryce on Buffy and its spin-off, Angel. If possible, HIMYM should orchestrate a reunion of the entire main cast of Buffy, but that’s just wishful thinking.

About Brody Gibson

+Brody Gibson studied film in Vancouver, BC. I originally intended to become a video editor, but realized I have a passion for writing. To say I love television is a bit of an understatement. I watch it religiously, think about it constantly. To be able to talk about it is one the best things in the world. Combining that with my love of writing gives me the opportunity to express my opinions to the Internet masses and start gripping conversations.
