Modern Family Sets Haley Up With Jason Mantzoukas

Modern Family ABC

Haley (Sarah Hyland) may be old enough to go to college and start making her own choices in life, but won’t it be just a little bit weird to see her dating an older man? Modern Family is prepared to find out just how uncomfortable that idea can make us now that the series has cast Jason Mantzoukas in the role of Haley’s new boyfriend. Will it be creepy, or will Mantzoukas, a very funny actor in his late 30s who can be seen on The League, be able to sell this new relationship as something more than just an older guy wanting a younger tail to chase?

Mantzoukas’ guest starring role was reported by EW.com, further revealing his character would be a jeans designer who winds up as Haley’s co-worker before ultimately becoming her new boy toy. It will be interesting to see how her parents react to the news of Haley being with this older guy. Given her history of embarrassment over her parents’ methods of dealing with people and situations, we’re practically guaranteed hilarity whether Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire (Julie Bowen) react in horror or embrace Mantzoukas with open arms. Whichever direction Modern Family decides to go with this, I’m sure it will be handled in the most awkward way possible.

One other cast member of The League will visit Modern Family this season. Paul Scheer will guest star as a Costco manager who meets Gloria (Sofia Vergara) and Claire. What kind conflict will the three have? I haven’t a clue, but with Scheer involved, you just know it’s going to be memorable. Also guest starring this season is Matthew Broderick as an old friend of Phil’s and Shelley Long as Jay’s (Ed O’Neill) ex-wife. It’s quite the lineup and should excite fans in just the right way to keep them coming back throughout Season 4. Not that they need a better reason than just wanting to watch the show!
