Sons of Anarchy Rocks Out With Dave Navarro
Sons of Anarchy loves its music, so it makes sense the series would want to invite a musician to play a small part. Dave Navarro, lead guitarist for Jane’s Addiction, will guest star in an upcoming episode of the FX series, adding his name to an already impressive list of recurring characters and guest stars, such as Joel McHale, Walton Goggins, Ashley Tisdale and Harold Perrineau. It’s a curious casting decision – not because Navarro is a musician, but because he doesn’t have much experience acting. He’s done a number of appearances on reality television, but this is a scripted drama. A little more skill is required. So it will be interesting to see how well he can pull this off.
According to EW, Navarro was cast as a member of the Biz Lats gang and will share close ties with Nero (Jimmy Smits). This, unfortunately, is all we know about Navarro’s role in the show. It could be a ten second cameo, or he could carry significant importance throughout the episode he appears in. I would hope he makes a memorable appearance, but you just never really know what will cause a particular character to stay in your mind. It would be nice if he could get in a big fight, maybe with four or five other guys, and beat them all down. Just to make him seem really tough.
Since Sons of Anarchy gave Navarro the part, Jane’s Addiction will do a cover of “Sympathy for the Devil,” which will play in the season finale. I hope they do a good job. How embarrassing would be if their version of the song was just the worst thing ever? I’m not saying it will be, but just think about the possibility. It’s a little terrifying. I would just feel so bad for the band. But at least Navarro will have gotten a chance to be on Sons of Anarchy!
