The Big Bang Theory Sends Alphas’ Ryan Cartwright to School

The Big Bang Theory CBS

Ryan Cartwright is a terrific little gem of a British actor, often giving his projects just a little extra pep. He’s been a joyful part of Mad Men, Bones and has been absolutely killing it as Gary, an autistic man with the ability to see and interact with wavelengths, on Alphas. He’s the kind of guy you want on your show if you’re looking for someone to deliver delightfully hilarious performances that don’t stand out like sore thumbs. His latest gig, on The Big Bang Theory, will hopefully put him in the position to continue his streak of dorky, comedic parts. And if not, well a streak has to come to an end eventually.

The Big Bang Theory has been rather unkind to Penny throughout its run. Her life’s dream is to be an actress, but she is nowhere closer to achieving that dream than she was when the series first started. So now the writers are thinking she’s been making a fool of herself long enough and it’s time she attempted to do something different with her life. And that’s where Cartwright comes into things. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Penny heads back to school and Cartwright will play one of her new classmates, Cole. Now, Cartwright is a cute looking guy. He isn’t drop dead gorgeous, but he has a certain geek appeal to him. Considering Penny is currently dating mega-nerd Leonard, this new guy, Cole, might raise some issues for the couple.

Leonard is naturally insecure – he’s a science nerd after all – so he may feel jealous Penny has a new guy friend. If I were him, I would be completely jealous if Cole retain’s Cartwright’s British accent, a natural aphrodisiac. But surely Penny is about to ditch Leonard for the first friend she makes at school, right? After all they’ve been through? I’m betting Leonard will feel jealous, realize he’s being stupid and nothing too bad will happen.

Cartwright will appear in the Nov. 15 episode.
