Parks and Recreation

Get ready for a power cameo on the set of Parks and Recreation. The NBC comedy is welcoming politico, Mr. Newt Gingrich to their happy family, well, on a temporary basis at least. This colorful casting news shouldn’t surprise fans of the hit comedy. Joe Biden, John McCain, Olympia Snowe, and Barbara Boxer paved the way and now Gingrich is the latest addition to their Parks and Recreation cameo club.

In fact, Gingrich’s scenes are all wrapped up and in the can so to speak according to EW. So, what happy coincidence led to the snagging of the former candidate?

An upcoming episode of Parks and Rec features a bachelor party for the character of Ben, acted by Adam Scott. It was being filmed at an Indianapolis restaurant when the former Speaker of the House walked in serendipitously! He just appeared! Not wanting to shame that twist of fate, the series creator, Michael Schur, went into high gear and speedily arranged a role for Gingrich in the episode. Luckily, Gingrich was game.

There are also a couple of premeditated cameos in store for us in that same episode. Athletes, Roy Hibbert and Miles Plumlee of the Indiana Pacers also show their faces. Hibbert has been on the show before when he performed his first cameo last season.

Rob Lowe shared some screen time with Gingrich at the St. Elmo Steak House location. I wonder if he got Newt’s autograph…or vice versa.

It has been a merry season five for Parks and Rec. The December 6 episode is titled “Ron and Diane” and it revolves around a woodworking award show. During this episode Jerry and his wife also throw a holiday party. Surprise! That means we get to meet Jerry’s wife and she’s really something. Her role has been filled by supermodel Christie Brinkley.
