The Good Wife

Private Practice fans know that actress Audra McDonald will return to her beloved role as Dr. Naomi Bennett long enough to bid the medical drama farewell in the series finale next week. That’s not the only airtime McDonald will be getting. She’s also scheduled for a rip-roarin’ guest appearance on The Good Wife.

When McDonald first left the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off, Private Practice, to be closer to her kids, fans were particularly affected by her absence. It’s only fitting that she return for the show’s end. But her fans are getting a real added treat if they tune into The Good Wife.

The Julianna Margulies lead character, Alicia, has seen more than her fair share of rivalry. Thanks to Audra McDonald’s guest role, that streak has not yet come to and end. According to THR, McDonald will play a “nemesis” from Alicia’s time at Georgetown law school. The old competition will resurrect when and the pair meet again, this time in the courtroom. I look forward to seeing the contest between two intelligent women. Alicia is at her best when she is grappling with a worthy opponent, and sometimes even unworthy, slimy ones, too. Let the games begin!

McDonald will appear during this season, which is number four for the series, and has signed on for just one episode thus far, but we hear there’s a chance McDonald will return again later.

McDonald happens to be quite the stage actress. She was Bess in Porgy and Bess for several months in 2012 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Her past shows include Ragtime, Henry IV, A Raisin in the Sun and Twelfth Night. She has five Tony Awards.

Other noteworthy new and returning guest stars for The Good Wife this season are Matthew Perry, Maura Tierney, Kristin Chenoweth, Michael J. Fox, Amanda Peet, Nathan Lane and Christina Ricci.
