The Originals CW

We’ve got some news about that potential spinoff to The Vampire Diaries and it’s about as good as it could get. When it was first announced Joseph Morgan would be headlining his own series focusing on the Original family of vampires, all I wanted to know is which of his siblings would a part of this new production. Up until now, all we knew is Morgan’s Klaus would be working alongside the werewolf Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and somebody named Marcel, but now we know without a doubt they will be joined by fellow Original vampire Elijah. You could not ask for a better vampire.

As reported by Deadline, Daniel Gillies, who has recurred as Elijah on Vampire Diaries since Season 2, will be starring alongside Morgan and Tonkin in The Originals. Elijah has always been my favorite out of the Original family due to his usually unwavering moral code. Whenever he turns up, I get all giddy. Plus, it helps that I feel a little camaraderie for Gillies, my fellow Canuck. The actor currently stars on the Canadian medical drama, Saving Hope, and would continue to appear on it even if The Originals goes to series. How he would manage to split his time between the two series I have no idea.

The Originals is being written as a backdoor pilot by Vampire Diaries co-creator and executive producer Julie Plec. The episode is set to air April 25 and will set up the new surroundings of the French Quarter of New Orleans, a place built by Klaus centuries ago. He reunites with his diabolical former protégé Marcel –whoever that is. I immediately have more faith in this potential series simply because of Gillies’ involvement. Now if only we could hear whether the other Originals, Rebekah (Claire Holt) and Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic), will be involved at all. One would assume with a title like The Originals there would be more than two Originals.
