Popular TV actress Amy Brenneman is on her way to an HBO set. The actress is the latest recruit for the interesting drama pilot, The Leftovers.
NYPD Blue, Judging Amy and Private Practice all held long running roles for Brnneman, who also graced the big screen in Heat, Fear and 88 Minutes. In Heat she co-starred with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.
Brenneman will play Justin Theroux’s wife in the premium cable network’s adaptation of Tom Perrotta’s The Leftovers, announced The Hollywood Reporter.
Theroux is the star of the pilot. He will play Kevin Garvey, “the police chief and father of two who’s trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy in a world that is starting to completely reject the notion”. Brenneman is his wife. We’ve heard their daughter will be a strong rock during all of this. Why? Because the family’s wife and mother abandons them to join the mysterious cult that has a big focus in the pilot.
We’ve been following the casting decisions and can also announce two more today, headed to the set along with Brenneman.
Emily Meade of Boardwalk Empire will be series regular character: Amy. She’s a free-spirited high school student adapting quickly to being left behind in the wake of the Rapture. Jake Robinson of The Carrie Diaries will recur as a popular high school stud.
As previously reported, the rest of the cast already include Lord of the Rings star Liv Tyler, Tony nominee Carrie Coon, former Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston, Ann Dowd and Amanda Warren.
Damon Lindelof has created the series, though it is a tad immature to call it a series. It is only as the pilot stage at this point and the pilot will be directed by Peter Berg. Lindelof will co-write and executive produce the Warner Bros. TV effort with Perrotta.
