Wayward Pines continues to expand its all-star cast with the addition of Political Animals’ Carla Gugino in a leading role that will surely cause endless amount of problems for our main guy, Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon). He already has his hands full as a Secret Service agent arriving in Wayward Pines, Idaho on a mission to find two missing federal agents, and his questions never lead to answers, only more questions. So when he bumps into Gugino’s character, which I will get to in a second, she only adds to his problems, but not in the life threatening way everything else in the town seems to be troubling him.
Ethan will find himself leaving his life behind, taking him from being a husband and a father, and might not leave Wayward Pines alive. Gugino will play, according to THR, Ethan’s ex-partner Kate Hewson, who now lives in Wayward Pines. She’s smart, capable, loyal, fiery, blunt and fearless. But their former love for each other simmers just below the surface. Already I can see Kate being one of the big reasons why Ethan will find it hard to leave Wayward Pines – who could resist the seductive powers of Carla Gugino? I know I couldn’t. I would be like puddy in her hands. I just have one big question: is Kate a part of the mysteries surrounding the town, or is she as much of a hostage as Ethan? The obvious move here would be to have Kate pretend to be on Ethan’s side and then reveal herself to be a part of the machinations.
Also starring is Melissa Leo as Nurse Pam, who takes care of Ethan when he first wakes up in Wayward Pines. The 10-episode drama is a limited series from Chad Hodge and M. Night Shyamalan and based on the best-selling novel by Blake Crouch. It’s said to be a thriller in the same vein as Twin Peaks.
