Kelly Christiansen

Kelly Christiansen lives in a studio apartment that's way too small for her shoe collection. She dropped out of the Fashion Institute of Technology to pursue a career in ophthalmology, but scrubs can't compare to stilettos and skinny jeans. She eats, sleeps, and breathes fashion. And cheap champagne. Kelly plans to one day take over Paris Vogue..and the world. She blogs sporadically at Fashion School Dropout.

Christian Siriano: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2010

By Kelly Christiansen on September 15, 2010

There was a seating snafu at my very first fashion show EVER. I was supposed to be sitting in the sixth row, halfway down the runway, at the Christian Siriano show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center in New York City. Instead, I wound up in the front row. Apparently there were “celebrities” present; [...]

Michael O’Connor interview: Almost Fashion Week!

Michael O’Connor interview: Almost Fashion Week!

By Kelly Christiansen on September 9, 2010

New York Fashion Week Spring 2011 begins its inaugural season at Lincoln Center, some 20 blocks north of its previous home at Bryant Park, on Thursday, September 9. Despite some initial huffing and puffing in the media, it seems the usual full roster of attendees is expected, including style expert Michael O’Connor. Michael started as [...]

MODA Manhattan and Accessories The Show – review

MODA Manhattan and Accessories The Show – review

By Kelly Christiansen on August 30, 2010

Earlier this month, the Jacob Javits Convention Center, in New York City, hosted a slew of fashion trade shows. I got to attend two of them, MODA Manhattan and Accessories The Show. Open to the fashion retail trade and press only, MODA and ATS bring the best showrooms of ready to wear (RTW) and accessories [...]

Designer Interview: Micaela Ezra

By Kelly Christiansen on August 19, 2010

A few weeks back, I received the Fall 2010 lookbooks for three lines of clothing I was previously unfamiliar with: Sine, Laila, and Parameter. I tore through the lookbooks, quickly familiarized myself with the amazing summer collections on the accompanying website, and mentally stuffed a shopping bag with their sale and clearance items. By some [...]

Louise Roe – Plain Jane – Interview

Louise Roe – Plain Jane – Interview

By Kelly Christiansen on July 28, 2010

I had the pleasure of speaking with Louise Roe the other day about her new fashion makeover show Plain Jane on the CW Network, where she helps transform ugly ducklings, “top to bottom, inside and out”, which means “it’s not just a shopping trip.”  She says of the girls, “I’m almost becoming their best friend. [...]

The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell – review

The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell – review

By Kelly Christiansen on June 17, 2010

Despite being an avid fan of the TV series and movies, I’ve never gotten around to reading Candace Bushnell’s Sex and the City, so it felt appropriate to read her newly-released prequel, The Carrie Diaries, first. The Carrie Diaries follows SATC‘s lead character, Carrie Bradshaw, through her senior year of high school in Castlebury, Connecticut.  [...]

How to be Adored: A Girl’s Guide to Hollywood Glamour by Caroline Cox – review

How to be Adored: A Girl’s Guide to Hollywood Glamour by Caroline Cox – review

By Kelly Christiansen on May 28, 2010

Over the years, I’ve found that I generally dislike books which classify themselves as “style guides.”  They all seem to dole out the same advice, prescribed for your specific hair/skin/body type. I always roll my eyes, thinking, “More hair and makeup tricks I’ll never use.”  That being said, I am a sucker for an enticing [...]

Quicktake: Rodarte at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum

By Kelly Christiansen on April 1, 2010

I have always considered myself a Marc Jacobs girl. My first ghastly expensive designer handbag, a Marc Jacobs “Stella” bag in white leather, was the sweetest Christmas present my mother has ever given me. In my first week studying Accessories Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, I was moved to tears when I wandered [...]

You Say You Want a Revolution: Alexander Wang Fall 2010

By Kelly Christiansen on February 26, 2010

Alexander Wang’s Fall 2010 fashion show took place at Pier 94 in New York City on February 13, 2010. Bitter cold and biting winds didn’t stop fashion’s highest and mightiest from attending. Editors and stylists from Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, style.com, the New York Times, and other publications rubbed elbows with It Girls, other young designers, [...]

Catwalk Countdown: New York Fashion Week

By Kelly Christiansen on February 11, 2010

New York Fashion Week officially begins Thursday, February 11, 2010. Don’t be fooled by the term “fashion week,” as it is more of a “fashion month”: there’s New York, then London, followed by Milan, and (last but certainly not least) Paris Fashion Week(s). For me, this has always meant racing home from school or work [...]
