Unleashed by John Levitt – review

Unleashed by John Levitt is the third urban fantasy in the Dog Days series. From the San Francisco aura described in the first paragraph to the magic on the last page, this book never let up. It’s action-packed danger, a see-saw between clues and just staying alive.

Book Review – Criminal Tendencies edited by Lynne Patrick
Overall, a nice collection. The stories run the gamut from noir to cozy, modern-day to historical with a surprise futuristic thrown in. There’s a little bit of the “fantastic” here and there as well in the form of a ghost or two. I really, really wish that editors would mix genres together like this in collections more often

Book Review – The Cracked Throne by Joshua Palmatier
When I finished The Skewed Throne by Joshua Palmatier last year, I felt no hurry to read the next book. The first book ended well and left me satisfied. Varis, the main character, had such a rough life that even though she triumphed over some nasty stuff, I was happy to leave her happy . . .
Maria’s Ephemeral Finds – Shoes
The Shoes Make the Man. Or so Agent Babs (I bet she hates being called that) over at Dead Guy claims.
So…if I’m being judged by my shoes, it turns out I’m a cross between a ninja and…an old lady. Assuming ninjas go around barefoot or in socks most of the time and sneakers when in public. Perhaps our resident ninja . . .
Book Review – Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews
Magic Strikes is the third book in Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series—and it’s every bit as good as the first and second in the series. I’m not sure which of the three is my favorite, but both two (Magic Burns) and three (Magic Strikes) are going to make my “best of” for 2009. . .
Book Review – Monster by A. Lee Martinez
It’s rare that I pick up a book while waiting for an appointment and decide that I don’t mind if I have to wait a while—and I was only on page two. A. Lee Martinez starts out Monster with just that, a monster, specifically a Yeti. It only gets crazier. . .

Book Review – The Laughter of Dead Kings
Elizabeth Peters took a long break from the last Vicky Bliss book before writing/releasing, The Laughter of Dead Kings. Book 5, Night Train to Memphis came out in 1994. I read it in paperback around 1995. The series remains one of my favorite cozy series of all time. . .
