Ready to see darker side of Zach Galifianakis? He cracked us up with his ‘lone wolf’ in The Hangover and got our attention in a slightly more serious role as a mental patient in It’s Kind of a Funny Story. Now, the LA Times is bringing word that Zach might be moving towards a grittier [...]

Chloe Moretz in Emily The Strange
I worry about Chloe Moretz. Don’t get me wrong, the pretty and capable preteen is having a great career. She has over 25 roles to her credit already. It’s the type of roles that give me mild concern. Moretz first hit my radar screen when she stepped into the cape of Hit Girl in comic [...]

Doctor Solar Man of the Atom/Magnus Robot Fighter – Dark Horse FCBD Preview
Saw these over at CBR and because I’m a big fan of VALIANT I just have to mention it here at BSC. First, it’s not VALIANT, but it is Jim Shooter writing characters called Solar (MD version) and Magnus Robot Fighter. Not only may that be good enough, it might be better than what we [...]

Magnus and Solar Back on Free Comic Book Day!

I don’t know how I missed this. Maybe I was too excited about the G.I. Joe #155.5 Free Comic Book Day announcement by IDW, but I’m back from sabbatical to correct myself. Dark Horse has announced there own FCBD release and it’s Magnus and Doctor Solar. You may remember my excitement regarding the announcement that Dark Horse had brought in Jim Shooter to oversee the creative future of their acquisition of the Gold Key license, and I’m glad to see there doesn’t seem to be any delays as they’ve showed us the cover for the release!

Steve Niles and Criminal Macabre scooped by Universal
I’m sure he doesn’t remember, but Damon told me he met Steve Niles at a NY Con and that he was mad cool (it goes without saying he does great work) while BSC was chatting with the awesome people at Simon & Schuster. Cost nothing to be cool, so I’m glad to see that according to Variety, Universal Pictures has acquired Criminal Macabre.

Jan-Ken-Pon – Jim Shooter’s Gold Key (and ’90s Comic Book Validation)

There is this idea, or perhaps more apt, a stigma associated with the term ’90s comics. You can multiply that several times over if mentioning ’90s superhero comics. Regarding either, it’s a rather overstated stance if one considers what came out of the decade.
