The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black (short story!)

By BSCreview Guest on January 25, 2010

You know at BSC we love Small Beer Press, Gavin Grant, and Kelly Link, and we are always pleased to see new work from a group and team that displays an inability to have unawesome (in this case, it is a word) fiction attached to their names. The don’t lose this characteristic even in their [...]

Charlie Huston’s Already Dead & Hank Thompson trilogy – Read them for Free

Charlie Huston’s Already Dead & Hank Thompson trilogy – Read them for Free

By Jay Tomio on December 6, 2009

already dead charlie hustonOne of our contributors, Aaron Tieser, brought to my attention that BSC favorite-Charlie Huston recently posted news about some of his books being made including the outstanding Already Dead (check out Brian’s review). This is a great opportunity for people who haven’t jumped on board yet, perhaps disbelieving that somebody could make vampire(s) remotely interesting and actually kick-ass. Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia adaptation casts Colin Firth and Kevin Spacey

Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia adaptation casts Colin Firth and Kevin Spacey

By Jay Tomio on May 19, 2009

homage_cataloniaMost people know about 1984 and Animal Farm, or at least one or the other, though as widely regarded those works are the stigma of these books being part of a school curriculum during an age when most of us aren’t trying to read what we are told to, I think at least one generation may have decided to subconsciously pass on his other work. I find it very interesting how film actually has this huge (even something as big and as lasting The Lord of the Rings) reach regarding being able to possibly make us take a look back at works.
