Book Review – Redemption Ark
Author: Alastair Reynolds Cover Artist: Chris Moore Publisher: Gollancz Binding: Paperback Publication Date: 2003 I read Reynolds’ first novel Revelation Space in July. It’s an interesting book but on some points it leaves something to be desired. Reynolds has written four more books set in the same universe, as well as a number of shorter [...]
Book Review – Ash
Author: Mary Gentle Cover Artist: John Howe Publisher: Gollancz Binding: Paperback Publication Date: 1999 ASH – A Secret History can in many respects be regarded as Mary Gentle’s magnum opus, both in terms of volume (a whopping 1100 pages) and in terms of its ambition and scope. It is also a work of literature that [...]
Exclusive – Principles of Angels by Jaine Fenn (Chapter 1)
Got another sample here for the people. Some SF goodness from the good folks at Gollancz. It’s been awhile since a Tomio/Gollancz collabo – that have in some shadows, previously caused minor cults – has occurred and the only people who have suffered are the potential readers, so lets hope this is the beginning of even more! What we have here is the first chapter from Jaine Fenn’s recently released debut novel Principles of Angels. This was published last June and what we have is a pretty meaty chapter (it is my opinion that chapter length has been gradually going down – that Warren Ellis has found a way to barely even use pages!). I hope you enjoy!
I want to thank Ms. Fenn, Gollancz, and John Jarrold for all having a hand in this!

It was published in 1973 and won just about every science fiction major award. And rightly so, this book is a triumph of imagination. In fact, after [...]

Book Review – Cartomancy
Author: Mary Gentle Cover Artist: Les Edwards Publisher: Gollancz Binding: Paperback Publication Date: 2004 Cartomancy is a collection of short fiction by Mary Gentle. Book Review – Illario: The Lion’s Eye
Author: Mary Gentle Cover Artist: Les Edwards Publisher: Gollancz Binding: Paperback Publication Date: 2007 Ilario: the Lion’s Eye is set in the same world as Gentle’s much acclaimed Ash: A Secret History. Both are marketed as fantasy but personally I think of them as alternative history. In Ash Gentle introduces us to a medieval Europe [...]

Book Review – The Last Wish
Author: Andrzej Sapkowski Publisher: Gollancz Binding: Paperback Publication Date: April, 2007 The Last Wish by Polish ‘superstar’ writer Andrzej Sapkowski, is a mosaic novel compromising seven short stories alternated with a short scene, which bridges the several short stories. It sort of introduces the reader to the cast and setting. Sapkowski began writing in the [...]
