Blade of Tyshalle by Matthew Stover – review

Over the course of the next month or so I’ll be relocating some reviews I did some years ago over at my old blog (The Bodhisattva) over to BSC. Some content that no longer makes sense (if it ever did!) and is not applicable anymore, like links that don’t exist anymore, will be removed. Also, I now have the benefit of handing this to a second pair of eyes for editorial corrections–which I didn’t have or really care about before! This time it’s a review of Matthew Stover’s Blade of Tyshalle–simply one of my favorite novels ever.
Check it out after the jump…

On the Spot at BSC – Matthew Stover Interview
Today we have Matthew Stover On the Spot in an interview I conducted last month. Stover’s novels chronicling the adventures of Caine are always among my most anticipated books and recently he delivered with the publication of his third Caine novel, Caine Black Knife, published by Del Rey last October (which I reviewed then). He [...]

Exclusive – Caine Black Knife by Matthew Stover (excerpt)
BookSpotCentral is back with another exclusive look, and this one is from one of the books I have been most anticipating for a couple of years now. What I have for you are the first two parts of Caine Black Knife by Matthew Stover. I believe the first part is available at the Random House website, but we are bringing you that, entitled Maximum Bad, and the following segment, Gifts. Stover is the NY Times Best Selling novelist of books like novelization of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Caine Black Knife is the third book chronicling his own creation, Caine. The first two books are Heroes Die and Blade of Tyshalle and they amount to what is simply some of the best SF/F stories you can buy, mixing intense action with cerebral storytelling. I’ve read Caine Black Knife and my review will be out very soon (so be on the lookout!), but for now we have what is about the first 12-pages to the book coming out next week.
Synopsis:
In Heroes Die and Blade of Tyshalle, Matthew Stover created a new kind of fantasy novel, and a new kind of hero to go with it: Caine, a street thug turned superstar, battling in a future where reality shows take place in another dimension, on a world where magic exists and gods are up close and personal. In that beautiful, savage land, Caine is an assassin without peer, a living legend born from one of the highest-rated reality shows ever made. That season, Caine almost single-handedly defeated–and all but exterminated–the fiercest of all tribes: the Black Knives. But the shocking truth of what really took place during that blood-drenched adventure has never been revealed . . . until now.
Thirty years later, Caine returns to the scene of his greatest triumph–some would say greatest crime–at the request of his adopted brother Orbek, the last of the true Black Knives. But where Caine goes, danger follows, and he soon finds himself back in familiar territory: fighting for his life against impossible odds, with the fate of two worlds hanging in the balance.
Just the way Caine likes it.
I want to thank Del Rey for allowing us to bring the following sample to our readers and choosing us as a venue.
Enjoy!
