Set off the coast of 1655 Jamaica, Spielberg is currently said to be ‘developing’ the film with a possible eye on directing it. Obviously, Spielberg has been behind Crichton adaptations before, blowing a generation’s mind with Jurassic Park. Already brought in to write the screenplay is David Koepp, who has adapted other rather high profile books like Jurassic Park, Angel and Demons, and War of the Worlds. He also adapted Lost World which was meh. Most recently you’ve seen his work in The Taking of Pelham 123 .

You can’t go wrong with pirates!

Later this year Harper Collins will publish Pirate Latitudes in November and is set in Jamaica circa 1665, and deals with a pirate named Hunter, the governor of Jamaica and a raid of a Spanish galleon filled with treasure. This book is said to have been completed before Crichton’s death last year.

The other novel has yet to be titled, but is described as technological thriller, and will see a possible 2010 release. Variety is reporting that this novel has to be finished, and an author has not yet been assigned (or at least announced) to complete it.
