Damon’s Noise – WHIRL – My Rotten Life by David Lubar

Damon’s Noise – WHIRL – My Rotten Life by David Lubar

By Damon Cap on August 12, 2009

tilt-a-whirl2My first book up for WHIRL is David Lubar’s My Rotten Life (Lubar is also a native of my town). It seems I have been reading a lot of YA stuff lately, and really enjoying it. Nathan Abercrombie, fifth-grader, accidentally becomes a zombie.

Book Review – The Eye of the Heron

By Rob on December 7, 2008

Author: Ursula K. Le Guin Cover Artist: Mary GrandPré Publisher: Starscape Books Binding: Paperback Publication Date: September 2003 I picked up a very cheap copy of the Starscape edition (Tom Doherty’s YA imprint) of The Eye of the Heron. Le Guin is of course one of the greats of speculative fiction but this is actually [...]

Book Review – Dreamquest

Book Review – Dreamquest

By Matt Denault on May 24, 2007

Author: Brent Hartinger Cover Artist: August Hall Publisher: Starscape Books Binding: Hardcover Publication Date: March 2007 Let me confess up front, I find the consolatory, self-indulgent nature of much recent middle grade and young adult fiction troubling. I started reading novel-length fiction when I was 10 or 11 years old, the same age as the [...]

Author: David Lubar Cover Artist: Greg Swearingen Publisher: Starscape Books Binding: Paperback Publication Date: January 2003 Hidden Talents by David Lubar (originally published in 1999, this is a Tor Starscape Books release) Hidden Talents is a fun and funky Afterschool Special of a book. Book Review – Chance Fortune & The Outlaws

By Brian on November 9, 2006

Author: Shane Berryhill Publisher: Starscape Books Binding: Hardcover Publication Date: July 2006 I couldn’t help but smile when reading this and could easily imagine Berryhill doing the same while writing it. Chance Fortune takes place in a world that has a prevalent super-hero population. The goal for those with powers is to be accepted into [...]
